A camper may judge a portable kitchen by the first weekend: Was it easy to carry? Did it open quickly? Was there enough room to cook?
A distributor has to look much further ahead. The product must survive parcel delivery, make sense on a retail floor, work with regional cooking equipment and remain serviceable after the first production run has sold through. One missing connector or one discontinued insert can turn a promising “modular” range into a shelf full of incompatible parts.
That changes the meaning of best.
For an outdoor brand, the best modular camping kitchen is not necessarily the system with the longest accessory list. It is the one built around a stable common platform—one that can support several clear retail packages without creating unnecessary inventory, compliance or after-sales work.
For most car-camping, overland and RV-focused product lines, a storage-first mobile base with interchangeable cooking, preparation, washing and table modules offers the strongest commercial balance.
This format gives the end user a real kitchen rather than a bare stove stand. It also gives the buyer several ways to sell the platform: as a stove-free base, a gas kitchen, an induction kitchen, a BBQ package or an expanded family set.
The INTECAMP EC2.0-T modular base unit is one example of this approach. Market-specific cooking choices. Gas pressure, connectors, voltage, frequency and plug formats vary. A modular base should not force every country into one appliance specification.
The last point matters more than it first appears. A fixed stove can make a complete kitchen easy to understand at retail, but it can also restrict where the product can be sold. A stove-free base allows the brand or importer to choose an approved appliance for each destination instead of re-engineering the entire kitchen.

A stove-free platform is often the least dramatic product in a showroom and the most sensible one on a purchasing spreadsheet.
Without an integrated burner, the same base can be used for gas, induction, BBQ, washing or food preparation. A European distributor can develop a compliant regional gas package; a North American partner can select a different burner and connection system; an outdoor-lifestyle retailer can sell the base as a table-and-storage kitchen without any appliance at all.
The EC2.0-T illustrates the format. Its reference configuration folds to 450 × 470 × 485 mm and expands to approximately 1,820 × 1,028 × 422 mm. The low working height is intended for cooking and dining beside low camping chairs, rather than copying a domestic standing-height counter. Gas remains easy for customers to understand. It works away from mains power, heats quickly and fits the habits of many car campers, anglers, overlanders and family campers.
A complete gas configuration can also be a strong hero product online because the use case is immediately visible: storage below, preparation on either side, washing nearby and a dedicated cooking position in the centre. Gas is therefore best when the distributor has a clearly defined destination market and is willing to lock the appliance specification before production. It is less attractive as a single “worldwide” SKU.
Induction gives a modular kitchen a different commercial identity. It removes the gas cylinder from the user story and suits powered campsites, RV parks, glamping accommodation, garden use and vehicle-supported travel where a suitable power source is available.

In the United States, an NRTL certification mark indicates that the product was tested and certified to appropriate product safety standards within that laboratory’s recognized scope; OSHA maintains information on its Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory program. That does not mean every portable consumer appliance is governed in the same way, but it does show why buyers should ask for the exact listing and model rather than accept a generic “UL compliant” statement.
Induction is strongest when the target customer already understands power availability. It is a poor choice if marketing photographs show remote off-grid use without explaining where 2,000 watts will come from.
Accessories are often where a modular range becomes commercially interesting. A customer may delay buying a second complete kitchen, but a useful grill or table module is a much easier follow-up purchase.

That does not automatically make it cheaper. Modular interfaces, stronger connection hardware and more complex packaging can add cost. The advantage is flexibility:
A slow-moving cooking module does not necessarily trap the complete base inventory.
A damaged table can be replaced without returning the whole kitchen.
A brand can introduce an accessory after the main product has established demand.
Regional distributors can share the same base while localizing the energy module.
Product photography and merchandising retain a consistent family appearance.
The value disappears if the supplier changes dimensions without version control, cannot supply spare connectors or treats each bundle as an undocumented factory variation. Before placing a large order, request a compatibility matrix showing every base, module, adapter and production revision.
Launching every possible configuration at once is rarely necessary. For a new private-label range, three deliberate SKUs are usually more useful than ten lightly differentiated ones.
Choose a stove-free base or the cooking format with the broadest proven demand in your channel. This is the product that establishes the range’s design language, packed size and main retail price.
Add either a market-specific gas module or an induction configuration. Do not launch both simply to make the catalogue look larger. Use customer research, retailer feedback and local power or fuel habits to decide.
A BBQ/worktop, sink or additional table is a sensible third product because it can be sold to existing kitchen owners and to customers who do not yet own the core platform.
Once sell-through and return data are available, expand into family bundles, insulated storage, spare-part kits and channel-specific packages.
An empty display sample tells very little. Load the storage compartment with realistic cookware, place weight on the tables and move the closed product across thresholds, gravel and uneven ground. Check wheel alignment, handle deflection, latch engagement and whether stored items interfere with folding parts.
Give the sample and draft instructions to someone who has not seen the sales demonstration. Watch where that person hesitates. If several loose fasteners look alike or a table can be installed in the wrong direction, the problem will reappear in customer reviews.
Powder coating and colour are easy to discuss. Hinge pins, leg locks, table connectors, burner supports and load paths determine whether the product still feels solid after a season of use. Ask for tolerances on the parts that control module fit.
A modular kitchen contains hard, heavy parts packed close together. Internal movement can scratch panels, bend brackets or crack an appliance before the outer carton looks badly damaged. Approve the packing method only after a packaged sample has been tested through the handling level appropriate to the chosen distribution route.
List the parts a distributor can replace: wheels, handles, buckles, legs, fasteners, boards, basins, hoses, adapters and electrical modules. Record part numbers and expected availability. A small spare-parts carton is often more valuable than a generous but vague warranty promise.
A logo, colour change and printed carton are normal private-label tasks. A different module opening, revised load structure or integrated appliance is an engineering project. It should have drawings, revision numbers, sample approval and a defined validation plan.
Do not accept one certificate folder as evidence for every bundle. A base table, a gas version and an induction version may have different requirements. In the EU, consumer product obligations also include the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, applicable since 13 December 2024, alongside any product-specific legislation. Confirm traceability, responsible economic operator information, warnings, instructions and technical records for the exact SKU being placed on the market.

Neither is universally better. Gas suits off-grid use but requires careful localization of the appliance, pressure, regulator and connection system. Induction suits powered campsites, glamping, RV parks and customers who prefer flameless cooking, but it requires the correct voltage, frequency, plug and available power. A stove-free base gives a multi-market distributor the most flexibility.
Potentially, yes—provided the base product itself meets the requirements of each destination and the cooking appliance is localized separately. Labels, instructions, warnings, traceability details, packaging and responsible-party information may also differ. Confirm compliance for each finished SKU rather than assuming the base makes every bundle identical.
Start with a core kitchen, one locally relevant cooking option and one accessory that can be sold independently. This is normally enough to show the platform idea while keeping the first forecast manageable. Add more configurations after the brand has real sell-through, return and customer-use data.
Branding, colour, packaging, instructions and bundle selection are usually the most controlled starting points. Structural changes can create differentiation, but they also increase sampling time, tooling exposure and validation work. Change the structure only when customer research identifies a problem the standard platform does not solve.
Test packed transport, setup by an unfamiliar user, loaded stability, module fit, cleaning, heat exposure where applicable, repeated folding, carton protection and spare-part replacement. Record every approved part and document revision before mass production.
