The assortment grows, but the products share few parts, tell different stories and create separate forecasting problems.
A platform strategy starts from the opposite direction.
The brand chooses one recognizable structural base, defines the interfaces that must remain stable and then builds distinct customer offers around it. Gas, induction, BBQ, washing, storage and table configurations become related members of the same range rather than a collection of unrelated products.
That does not mean launching every possible combination. A good platform reduces complexity behind the scenes while making the choice clearer for the customer. A poor one merely turns one complicated product into twelve slow-moving SKUs.

Commonality should not erase real product differences. A gas module and an induction module need separate technical records. The rule is simple: share the parts that are genuinely common and control everything that changes the customer promise.
Packaging can either support the range or undo its economics.

One useful warning signal is healthy core sales combined with weak accessory sales.
